Leon Junior Antisdel
Leon "Junior" Antisdel, 73, Corning, was born to Leon Andrew and Lillie Irene Kirkpatrick Antisdel Nov. 28. 1923, in Adams County, north of Corning. He died July 28, 1997, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
He was married to Vina Mae Gourley on July 11, 1943 in Corning, Adams County, Iowa. Mr. Antisdel lived on a farm east of Carl, then moved to Carl in 1934 where he began helping his father in the Carl Store and Produce. He later purchased the business from his father and moved it to Corning. In 1965 he sold the produce and began working for Archway Cookies. He was an auditor for the State of Iowa from 1976 until 1981 when he chose to work in carpentry. He helped his son and nephew Jake with many remodeling projects during which he respectfully earned the title of "Colonel."
He was a member of the American Legion Ourcq Post No. 117 serving in many offices as long as his health permitted. Services were held July 30 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning with Mr. Larry Johnson officiating. Military rites were by Ourcq Post No. 117 of the Corning American Legion. Burial was in the Carl Cemetery in Adams County.
Casket bearers were Ron Brown, Bob Manke, Ron Hunter, Terry Moore, Jack Gadberry and Donald Willett. Honorary bearers were Ed Scott, Wendell Bell, Robert DeVore, Paul Hardisty. Charlie Jones-and L.O. Tilford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a sister in infancy; and brother-in-law Carl Tugel.
He Is survived by his son Larry (wife Judy) Antisdel, Corning; his daughter Nancy (husband Paul) Nielsen, Des Moines; two grandchildren; and sister Freda Tugel, Corning.
