Gladys Florence Enarson, 78, youngest child of Thomas Edward Richards and Susan Boswell Richards, was born Nov. 25, 1908 two and one-half miles north of Corning in Quincy township, Adams County, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 27, 1985. at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa.
She started to school in an Adams County rural school, moved in 1914 with her parents to Corning where she attended the Coming Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1924. She also had one year of college at Cedar Falls. Iowa. She taught in Adams County schools for several years.
On Dec. 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Elmo Laroy Enarson at Marengo, Iowa, by Rev. E.S. Menoher. They established their home in Audubon, Iowa, where Mr. Enarson operated a feed and flour mill. In 1938 they moved to Corning where they purchased and operated a cafe until Sept. 1941. In the spring of 1942 they moved to a farm in Prescott township where they lived until they retired. One son, Richard Laroy, was born to
this union.
Preceding her in death were her parents in 1938; a sister, Ellen Preston in 1918; a sister, Maggie Farris in 1944; a brother, Walter Richards in 1963; a sister, Ethel Asman in 1965; a sister, Ada Palmer in 1976; a brother, Homer Richards in 1977; and her husband Elmo Enarson on Feb. 24, 1969.
Surviving are a son, Richard Laroy and wife Sharon and two grandchildren, Lori Lynn and Shawn LeRoy; a step-daughter, Naomi McCormick of Atlantic; a brother, Burton Richards of Walnut, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Corning, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m.. with Joe Cook officiating. Interment was in
the Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa.
