Mrs. Charles Hill passed from this life at the family home southwest of Corning, Friday, October 7, 1921 about 5 o'clock a.m. after a long lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. W. C. Miles, pastor of the Federated Church and the body was laid to rest in the Walnut Cemetery.
Mrs. Hill, nee Emma Louise Kuhney, was born in Cedar County, Iowa on a farm, April 19, 1869. She was the daughter of David and Julia Kuhney, natives of Union County, Pennsylvania. When a mere child, she with her parents came to Adams County, which was her home during the remainer of her life. She was united in marriage to Charles Hill, May 13, 1886, and to this union two children were born. They are Glendore Hill and Helen Marie, now Mrs. Edwin Andrews, both of whom reside in Corning. For nearly 30 years Mrs. Hill had been an invalid, at times her suffering being intense, but she bore it all bravely and her life was one of faith. She was a member of the Congregational Church for years and was an active worker in Sunday School She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and one of the most enthusiastic workers for years. He life has left its impress upon the lives of many. She was loved and admired by a large circle of friends. During the past nine months, Mrs. Hill was confined to her bed and during her long illness, her sister, Mrs. Alice Hoskin of Omaha, was with her almost constantly.
Beside her husband and children, Mrs. Hill leaves one granddaughter, Katheryn Hill, who has been with her grandmother most of her life time; three brothers, Harry Kuhney of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, John Kuhney of Akron, Colorado, and Louis Kuhney of Omaha; also four sisters, Mrs. Ella Widner of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Alice Hoskins of Omaha, Mrs. Lula Woods of Seward, Nebraska, and Mrs. Elizabeth Shiffer of Nodaway, also thirteen children in the Kuhney family, six of whom had preceded Mrs. Hill in death.
Besides the brothers and sisters, Mrs. Hill, all of whom were here, the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Julia Hefren, a niece and her husband from Norfolk, Nebraska, Frank Shiffer and wife of Creston; Ed Shiffer and wife of Villisca, Clinton Cramer of Red Oak, Virgil Spicer of Grand and a niece Miss May Kuhney, from Havelock, Nebraska.
