Mrs. Ruth D Crippen died at her home in Los Angeles, California, Friday, February 12, 1909. Mrs. Crippen, daughter of Ellery and Maribah Hicks was born in Palmyra, New York, January 27, 1829. She was married in the early fifties to R. A. Crippen and to this union four children were born; Charles who died in Infancy, Arthur Willis, who died in Corning in 1881; Mrs. A. B. Turner of Corning, and Ellery H. of Los Angles, California. Mr. Crippen and his family came to Corning in 1872 and in 1886 removed to California, where Mr. Crippen died in 1891. Mrs. Crippen had four brothers, George, William e., John, and Charles Hicks, and three sisters, Mrs. M. s. Otis, Mrs. B. M. Scranton, and Mrs. Mary J. Twitchell, all of whom preceded her in death, with the exception of Mrs. Twitchell, of Perry, New York; William E. Hicks, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and John P. Hicks of Sandusky, Ohio. Mrs. Crippen, besides having lived in Corning a number of years ago, has visited here on several occasions, being well known to many of our citizens and to know her was to love her. The news of her death brought sadness to her many friends here. The remains are being brought to Corning for interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery where a short service will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. S. F. Gutelius. It is expected the relatives will arrive with the remains on Friday evening, having started from Los Angeles Tuesday.
