J J Walter, 88, well known farmer and business man, died at the Lenox Rest home Wednesday morning. Arrangements have been made for the funeral to be at the Methodist Church Friday at
2:00 p. m.

Mr Walter was born near Corning and had always lived in this vicinity. His wife died in December, 1950.

He leaves in the immediate family, two sons, Roland A of Lenox and Des Moines and Harry D of Lenox; three daughters, Mrs Ralph (Marie) McGee of Osceola; Mrs W K (Dorothy) Layland, Des Moines; Mrs Gerald (Marjorie) Fleming, Cedar Falls; also 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. One daughter died in infancy.

Walker, Jacob Jesse –
Jacob Jesse Walter was born November 11, 1870, near Corning,Iowa, to Henri and Louisa Schafroth Walter and passed away in the Lenox Rest Home, Lenox, Iowa, July 1, 1959, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 19 days.

Mr Walter grew to manhood in Adams County, spending his youth on the home farm. In the common schools he mastered the elementary branches of learning, but he was largely a self educated man.

On March 3, 1894, he was united in marriage to Minnie Florence Brokaw of Corning. They lived in and near Lenox all of their married life.

Mr Walter was preceded in death by his wife and an infant daughter. He is survived by two sons: Roland A of Lenox and Des Moines and Harry D of Lenox; three daughters: Marie (Mrs Ralph McGce) of Osceola, Dorothy (Mrs William K Layland) of Des Moines, and Marjorie (Mrs Gerald M Fleming) of Cedar Falls; and ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Other survivors are three brothers: Andrew of Des Moines, Lewis and Ben of Lenox; and two sisters: Mrs James Ely of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs J J Pierce of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr Walter spent his entire life in Adams and Taylor Counties and was closely associated with their growth and development.

In his lifetime as a farmer, stocker, feeder and businessman, he had many interests: stockholder and president of First National Bank of Lenox for many years; member of the Lenox School board for
fourteen years and president for four years. Mr Walter was a Mason and Shriner for years and was a member of the Lenox Methodist Church.

Funeral services were Friday at 2 p m at the Methodist Church in Lenox with Rev Burton Collier officiating. Burial was in the Lenox Cemetery.
