October 18, 1945, Page 24Relatives here received a message early Friday morning of the passing of W.J. Winstone, Jr. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Baker, at 11:20 o'clock Thursday night, October 11, 1945, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Mr. Winstone had been in poor health for over two years and was confined to his bed most of the time the last year.
He was born near Gloucestershire, England, June 15, 1869. He came to America with his parents when a little over 2 years old. The family first settled at West Branch, Cedar County, Iowa, later moving to the vicinity of Brooks, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He assisted his father on the farm until September 5, 1894, when he was married to Jessie McCreedy of Brooks. They located on a farm near the old home for several years, later moving to Chickasha, Oklahoma. Mr.Winstone worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company until he had reached the age limit for railroad employees. Mr. Winstone was 76 years, 4 months and 26 days old at the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, five daughters and two sons. Also three sisters, Mrs. Alice Walker of Brooks, Iowa, Mrs. W.S. Evans of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, Mrs. B.D. Strait of Portland, Oegon and one brother, Charles Winstone of Corning, Iowa. The funeral services were expected to be Sunday afternoon. They were awaiting the arrival of a daughter who lives at Long Beach, California.
