Mr. James K. White died at his home east of Villisca Sunday evening, September 4, 1910, after a lingering illness, the serious phase of which began on August 12th. He was 61 years, 3 months and 17 days of age. His death was caused by a complication of diseases involving his stomach, kidneys and bowels, and it is considered probable that a cancerous growth of some kind had fastened itself on his system but the attending physician is not certain of that and no autopsy will be held.

Funeral services took place Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev. Enoch Hill, pastor of the M.E. Church of Villisca and interment was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery, five miles southeast of Nodaway by the side of four of his children who had preceded him.

Mr. White was one of the community's most esteemed and respected farmers and his passing has caused expressions of the deepest regret and sorrow.

He was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, May 17, 1849, coming to Iowa with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred White, when nine years of age, and was reared on a farm in Nodaway Township. He was the eldest son. Both parents are now deceased.

On April 23, 1871, occurred his marriage to Miss Agnes Bowers, the ceremony having been performed by the Rev. Joe Peregrine. After his marriage he bought a farm five mles southeast of Nodaway, where he lived until he moved to the home place of eighty-four acres east of Villisca, thirteen years ago last March.

Mr. White united with the Christian Church at the age of twenty years, and led a life of practical Christianity. During his sickness he told his family he was prepared and expressed a desire to die.

Mr. White had been a hard working man all his life. He was ambitious and industrious and always followed the occupation of farming. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father and was respected and honored by all who knew him.

Surviving him are his wife and five childen; Mrs.Hattie Walter and Mrs. Etta King of near Nodaway, Iowa, Mr. T.R. White of Tingley, Iowa, and Ora and Ida at home. He has three brothers and one sister, five half brothers and two half sisters also surviving. His brothers, Joe White of Iveyville, Iowa, and Will White of Kensington, Kansas, were with him during his last illness. George White of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Mrs. Deba Thompson of Smith Center, Kansas, brother and sister, could not come. Thee are seven grandchildren living and two dead. One sister and one half-sister are dead.

Mr. White has been in failing health for some time and suffered greatly, but was very, very patient. He took no notice of relatives or friends at his bedside during the last two days and lay as in a stupor when death quietly took him away without a struggle and apparently painlessly.
