August 9, 1951, Page 5Edward Randolph Walter, son of Benjamin and Mary Walter, was born June 10, 1870, at Sardis, Ohio, and was 81 years old at his death. He passed away on July 23rd, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska.
When 14 years old he came with his parents to a farm near Brooks, Iowa. He was married to Hattie White on March 15, 1894, and the young couple engaged in farming in Adams County until the summer of 1919 when they moved to Villisca to make their home. Here they resided the remainder of their lives.
Five children were born to them, one of whom, Lillie Sanders, preceded Mr. Walter in death as did his wife who passed away in January of last year (January 22, 1950).
He is survived by a son, Alva, of Nodaway and three daughters, Mrs. Cordelia Pond of Nodaway, Mrs. Melvinia Ankeny of Villisca, and Mrs. Violet Patterson of Omaha, Nebraska and a granddaughter, Ellen May Wallace of Des Moines, who was reared from infancy in the home.
He leaves also 20 other grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother. They are Mrs. Emma Hossman, Frank Walter and Mrs. Louise Stillinger, all of Brooks. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
When a young man he and his wife united with the Mt. Etna Presbyterian Church in their community.
Funeral services wee held Wednesday, July 25, 1951, at 2 p.m. at the Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca, conducted by Mrs. Bertha Peters. Pallbearers were Willard White, Ivan Heaton, George Carmichael, Glen Jackson, Ivan Stillinger and Glen Hossman. The singing was by Mrs. Rogbert Rush and Mrs. Frances Gray, accompanied by Mrs. Eva Eno. Interment was in the Villisca Cemeery.
