Alva D. Walter, son of Edward R. and Hattie White Walter, was born December 21, 1898, in Adams County, Iowa, on a farm northwest of Nodaway, Iowa, where he lived his entire life. He departed this life at Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, on July 26, 1962, at the age of 63 years, seven months and seven days.

On July 18, 1920, he was married to Gladys L. Pond and to this union six children were born. They ae Harold E. of Prescott, Mrs. Darlene Brees of Brooks, Glen E. of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Mary Jo Rowe of Des Moines, Mrs. Carolyn Dixon of Corning and Connie at home.

Surviving him are his wife, Gladys, and their six children; two daughters- in -laws; three sons- in -law; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Cordelia Pond of Logan, Melvenia Ankeny of Council Bluffs, Violet Patterson of Omaha, Nebraska; his mother- in -law, Mrs. Clara Pond of Nodaway; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 30, 1962, at 1:30 p.m. from the Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa, with Rev. Don Briley of Prescott officiating. Pallbearers were Clyde Stillinger, James Penn, Fred Stillinger, Harold Neill, Ivan Stillinger and Harold Hayes. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
