Etta Mae King, daughter of James White and Agnes Bowers, was born October 20, 1878, in Adams County, Iowa, southeast of Nodaway. She answered her heavenly call on Monday, July 20, 1953, in Nodaway, Iowa, following an extended illness.

She was a twin in a family of nine children. Her twin brother, Marshall, died in childhood. Two sisters, Clara and Cora, and a brother, Perry, also died in childhood. Another sister, Hattie Walters, and a brother, Thelbert, died within the past few years. There remains of the children; Ora G. White and Mrs. Elmer Lindberg, both of Villisca, Iowa.

As a child Etta Mae White attended the Methodist Grove Country School, and the nearby Mount Zion Presbyterian Sunday School. Several years later she moved with her family to a farm east of Villisca, Iowa.

On February 26, 1902, she was united in marriage to James Herbert King with whom she lived in the Villisca, Nodaway and Guss communities all her life. They had been married forty years at the time of his passing in 1942. She was an affectionate wife and in her passing was re-united to him on the birthday of her husband.

To them were born three daughters and two sons. Four of them survive their mother's passing. They are, Mrs. George Carmichael and Mrs. Glen Jackson of Villisca, Iowa; Frank King of Kansas City, Kansas and Mrs. Willard Hethcote of Lakewood, Colorado. Emmet Leroy King died in early life. Mrs. King is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A member of the Methodist Church for nearly fifty years, she ws a faithful attendant at his service and loyal worker in the Master's Cause. She was always a busy woman at home, at church and in the community. One of her greatest interest was in pioneering the Extension Service to rural women.

Mrs. King will be lovingly remembered by her children as a fine Christian mother, by others as a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held at the Villisca Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 1953, with the Rev. Everett Staats in charge. A short prayer service was held at the Pitman Funeral Home preceding the church services. Singing was by Mrs. Robert Rusk, accompanied by Mrs. William Anderson at the organ.

Pallbearers were Alva Walters, Willard White, Gilbert Lndberg, Duane Pond, Milton Ankeny and Harold Walters. Ushers at the church were William Repass and Ray Selley. Ladies assisting with the flowers were Mrs. Marian Needham and Mrs. Virignia Westerlund. Interment was in the Methodist Grove Cemetery southeast of Nodaway.
