June 27, 1935, Page 15The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Bryson of Brooks, Iowa, brought sorrow to a large group of relatives and many friends who dearly loved this pioneer woman of Brooks. Mrs. Bryson had been active all her life, caring for her house, looking after her flowers, assisting with neighborhood and community affairs, visiting her children- enjoying life to the full limit.
And then suddenly three weeks ago she suffered a stroke, which was followed by another the next morning and for three weeks, she has battled with death. Tuesday morning, June 25, 1935, she died, aged 88 years, 7 months and 28 days. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 27, 1935, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Brooks. Interment will be made in the Nodaway Cemetery.
Elizabeth Harlow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Harlow, was born in Indiana, October 27, 1846. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1854 and knew all the hardships and joys of pioneering in Iowa. She was married to Alfred White on May 10, 1865. Eight children were born to this union; Charles E. White, Plainview, Texas, Corah L. Bender, deceased, Frank G. White, deceased, Fred E. White, Forest Park, Illinois, Mrs. Chrome Hupp, Los Angeles, California, Arthur L. White, Brooks, Iowa, Mrs. Blanche Hinds, deceased and Floyd White, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her husband, Alfred White passed away on July 7, 1887. She was later married to W.D. Bryson, July 22, 1893. Mr. Bryson died April 13, 1918.
Mrs. Bryson had spent 60 years in her present home in Brooks and was much loved by her neighbors and friends. She was always eager to visit her children, but was always delighted to return to her home town, to be among friends, her flowers and the familiar home furnishings. She has lived an active, useful happy life up until the day she suffered the stroke. Many friends join with the family in sorow because of her passing.
