November 5, 2011, we said goodbye to Earl Nathaniel Stewart, Jr. as he left our world.
Stew was born on February 14, 1929 in Des Moines to Earl Stewart, Sr. and Lillian Safia Bacon. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon discharge from the service, Stew began working as a truck driver and dock worker for Boss Freight Line. In 1963, he went to work for Crouse Cartage Company in Des Moines where he worked until retirement in 1989. Stew was a lifetime member of Teamsters Local 147.
Stew enjoyed horseracing, gardening and playing cribbage. He loved New Orleans Jazz, good country music and a well made cigar.
Stew is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ginnie. He is also survived by nine children and their significant others; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
