Mrs. Francis Girard

County Pioneer, Dies

Mrs. Francis Girard, 85 years of age and a resident of Adair County for the last forty-seven years, died at her home in Harrison township Sunday morning at eight o'clock. Four of her children were at her bedside when the end came.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Stuart Catholic Church. Interment was made in the Stuart Catholic (Calvary) cemetery by the side of her husband who died December 18, 1911.

Mrs. Girard was born in Holmes County, Ohio, June 21, 1839. She was married to Francis Girard in 1860 at her home in Holmes County. Mr. and Mrs. Girard moved to Adair County and made their home in Harrison township in 1887. This homestead was to be Mrs. Girard's home for fifty-seven years. She was living on this farm when her spirit departed last Sunday.

The four children who were at her bedside when death came were, Mrs. Frank Wambold (Della), Mrs. Jack Cavanaugh (Margaret), Joe Girard of Stuart, and Paul, who farmed the home place.

Fourteen children were born to Mr and Mrs. Girard. Seven are living. Besides those who were at their mother's beside are, Mrs. John O'Brien (Mary)of Stuart, Charles Girard and Frank Girard of Sioux City, Iowa.

The deceased is a sister of Mrs. T. J. Girard of Greenfield, who is the oldest living pioneer in Adair County, having lived in this county for the last forty-nine years.
