Death Of Mrs. L. H. Gordon
A mother, Mrs. L.H. Gordon, passed away Sunday evening, December 4 at her home in the north part of town after an illness of a week's duration. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 7th at 1:30 P.M. from the Church of Christ. Rev. H.T. Clampitt had charge of the services and was assisted by Mrs. Dessie Supp Cook of Corning. Interment made in the Greenfield cemetery.
Sadie Koons was born January 22, 1870, in Madison County, Iowa. When fourteen years of age she moved to Adair county with her parents. She was united in marriage June 16, 1888, to Lincoln H. Gordon and to this union were born seven children. They are: Mrs. Pearl Evans, of Fontanelle, Leo L. of Edmonton, Canada, Wardell, deceased, Mrs. Marie Carter, Jolly, Ia., Wayne J., Etha G., and Warren of Greefield. Her children were with her when her soul took its flight.
Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Church of Christ having united with that church in 1897, and was one of the charter members of the Greenfield church. She was a member of the G.A.R. circle and Yoeman Lodge.
All within medical power was done for her but to no avail.
Mrs. Gordon was a woman who found in her home the best expression of her life work. Under her guiding hand her children grew to young manhood and womanhood to go out into the world as useful and upright citizens. What better eulogy can be written of this one who has passed on than to say that she was a good mother.
The great bank of flowers, that adorned the funeral bire attested the esteem of the surviving relatives and friends.
