Rites Held in Adair for Maynard Menefee, 85

Maynard T. Menefee, 85, a native of Adair, passed away Monday, March 8, at Walnut Creek, Calif.

Funeral services were held Friday morning, March 12, at the First Presbyterian Church in Adair, conducted by Pastor Ted Wehling. Linda Menefee was the organist. Pallbearers were John Menefee, Dennis Menefee, Bill Menefee, Eugene Caltrider, Mark Downing, Douglas Downing, Bob Richardson, Terry Richardson and Phil Richardson. Interment was in Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair.

Maynard T. Menefee was born Oct. 15, 1907, in Adair, the son of Avery John and Myrtle Turner Menefee. He graduated from Adair High School in 1925. He spent his working life as a farmer in Adair, Guthrie, Dexter, Dallas Center and Maynard, Iowa.

He was married Dec. 28, 1930 to Dorothy Newell in Canton, S.D. They retired to Dunedin, Fla., in 1972, and moved to Concord, Calif., in 1990.

He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church and held several offices. He was active in local schools, 4-H, FFA and Farm Bureau. He was selected as an Iowa Master Farmer in 1948. He represented Fayette County in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1968 to 1972.

Survivors include one son, Myron Menefee of Concord, Calif.; three grand-children; two brothers, John Menefee of Panora and Robert Menefee of Fontanelle; three sisters, Marian McKnight of Canon City, Colo., Alice Franzone of Wheaton, Ill., and Rilla Downing of Decorah; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, on Feb. 26, 1993; two sisters, Helen Menefee and Glenora Carney; and four children in infancy.

Myron and Nancy Menefee of Concord, Calif., were guests of Gene and Roberta Caltrider over the weekend. They were here for the funeral of Myron's father, Maynard Menefee.
