Lena Wyllie, 87, passed away Saturday June 19, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Lena Mae Wyllie was born May 21,1917 to Jay L. & Alta F. [Smith] Chafa in Adair County.
Lena graduated fraom Fontanelle High School in 1936. She taught at various rural shools in Adair County until her marriage in 1944.
On Sept. 28,1944 the Rev. Charles Showalter united Lena in marriage to James Wyllie in Des Moines. They started their life together on the Wyllie Family Farm in Washington Township, Adair County.
Lena was baptized in the Disciples of Christ Church. She was an active member & attended regularly until her health began to fail.
To this union 2 sons were born Robert Jay & Marlin. Mr. & Mrs. Wyllie farmed until 1975 when they moved to their current home in Bridgewater.They remained active & enjoyed helping their son Marlin with his farm work on the family farm. Lena also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking & gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Preceding Lena in death were her father Jay on Oct.8,1951, her mother Alta On Oct.14,1974, sister-in-law Thelma Chafa on Dec.26,1987 & nephew Delano Chafa on March 19,2004.
She is survived by her husband James of Bridgewater; sons Robert Jay & Marlin both of Bridgewater; 3 grandsons & 5 great-grandchildren Chad Wyllie & wife Robin, their children Miles & Lauren of Grimes & Corey Wyllie & wife Kinzie, their children Call, Ty & Morgan of Woodburn & Ryan Wyllie & friend Kelly Hallihan of Urbandale; 1 brother Ivan Chafa of Fontanelle; special lifelong friend Velma Condon of Marshalltown, several nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives & friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday June 23 at Trinity Christian Church in Bridgewater with the Rev.David Clark officiating.
Music tributes were by pianist Norma Eilts with congregational hymns.
Pallbearers were Chad Wyllie, Corey Wyllie, Ryan Wyllie, Leo Chafa, Wade Chafa & John Sullivan.
The floral committee was Myrtle Richards, Doris Carl & Lois Roberts.
Interment was in the Garner Cemetery in Bridgewater.
Steen Funeral Homes provided professional arrangements.
