Emma Darlene Minnick 95, passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston on March 31,2003.
She was born Sept.6,1907 to Lars and Anna Kristine [Jensen] Nelson, near Defiance.
In 1817 her family moved to Shannon City from Crawford County. She attended country schools and graduated from Shannon City High School in 1926. After graduation she taught rural school in Union, Ringgold and Madison Counties.
Emma was baptized in and joined the Methodist Church in Shannon City in 1928. She later transferred her membership to the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, On May 19, 2002 she joined the Methodist Church in Greenfield.
Emma was married May 10,1941 to William Darrel Minnick. To this union 1 son Donald Ray was born in 1947.
She moved to Truro and worked in a grocery store and as a bookkeeper for International Harvester. In 1967 she moved to Des Moines and worked for Look Magazine before moving to Mount Ayr in 1969 where Emma worked as a bookkeeper for Wariin Oil Company for 18 years, retiring May 9,1987.
Due to health reasons, Emma moved to Greenfield in Oct.1998 to be near her son Don.
Emma enjoyed playing Bingo and helped by volunteering with Bingo at the nursing home. She spent countless hours crocheting. She was a happy person, always sharing a smith with those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrel; brothers Aster, Gardner and Easterly; sisters Rose Black and Lillian Nelson.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Donald and wife Jeannie; grandchildren Jackie, Standley and Scott and grandsons Jacob and Alex; nieces; nephews; cousins and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday April 3 with the Rev Chad Lierman officiating.
Musicians were Ginny Eighmy, Mary Davenport and Margaret Bickers.
Casketbearers were Bill Lamb, John Ahnen, Jim Agan, Hugh Terwillger, Marvin Woollums, and Randy Wenck.
Honorary pallbearers were Merritt Triggs, Dale Barnes and Bernard Gundel.
She is at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
