Thomas Shinkle 60, of Anita passed away Monday Aug.23,2004 at the Casey County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Thursday Aug.26 at the Anita United Methodist Church.
Friends may call at the Mullen Funeral Home in Anita Wednesday afternoon where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m.
Burial will be at the Carl Cemetery.
Thomas Lee Shinkle was born in Orient Township Adair County May 6,1944 the son of Kenneth and Grace [Brown] Shinkle.
He grew up in the Orient and Nevinville areas and attended Richland Township School. He graduated from Orient-Macksburg High School in 1961. He then worked as a mechanic and at gas stations in the area.
In 1962 he was married to Joy Cameron at Greenfield and they lived in Adair County. In 1982 he was married to Bonita Morgan Grant at Anita. He has lived in Anita since that time.
Tom was a longtime mechanic and had worked at Agri-Drains Corporation in Adair for the past several years.
He had been a member of the Methodist Church; of the Jay Cees and fire department when living in Adair; had driven a school bus for several years; and had been a longtime part time farmer and raised animals, which was his favorite pastime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening with a passion. He had been an excellent pool player.
Preceding him in death were his parents and 1 brother Donald in infancy.
Surviving are 1 daughter Jodie R.Cummins of Adair; 2 sons Rev. Tom Craig Shinkle and wife Elena of Waukee and Timothy A.Shinkle and wife Monica of Atlantic; 10 grandchildren; 1 brother John Shinkle and wife Dixie of Orient; 2 sisters Donna Phillips and husband Jim of Anita and Laurel Conley and husband Steve of Maryville, Mo.; nieces and nephews.
