Clara M.Handley, the daughter of Elizabeth and John Handley was born May 14,1877 in Cedar County, Iowa and left on her final journey at the Carroll Hospital in Carroll, Iowa Tuesday Nov.10,1959 at 12:15 p.m..
Mrs. Noland came to Adair County with her family in the spring of 1894. They made their home in Walnut Township which was to be her farm home until Dec.7,1898 when she And Walter Noland were married. The early years of their married life was spent in farming until 1913, when they moved to their present home in Greenfield.
This was to be their home up until the time they quitly observed their 60th wedding anniversary Dec.7,of last year. Within a few short weeks on Dec.26,1958 her husband was to pass from this earth to his higher destiny.
Surviving her are her son Clifford of Carroll, his wife, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents, 2 sisters, a brother and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Noland was a member of the Greenfield Presbyterian Church in which she took an active interest and was regular in her attendance as long as her health and care of her husband in his later years would permit. She was a considerate and thoughtful neighbor and a loyal friend. As she saw those of her generation leave one by one on their last journy she clung more closely to those who remained.
The great change from the unfenced rolling prairie, which she saw as a girl, to its present state of high cultivation was the miracle which passed before her eyes. The qualities of the pioneer mother were a part of her with its emphasis upon neighborliness, thoughtfulness and consideration for others.
Not many of her generation remain. They left their impress upon the life of the community which will remain long after they are gone.
