SLEZAK, FITZGERALD, AND WARBINTON

Fred Slezak son of Rudolph and Josephine Slezak was born on a sail boat Atlantic Ocean Aug. 20, 1861 having at the time of his death on March 29,1952 reached the age of 90 years, 7 months and 9 days.

He lived at Iowa City until 17 years of age. Then with his parents he moved to Adams County, Iowa.

He married Adaline Fitzgerald. To this union were born 3 daughters Eva, Lillie and Nellie.

He joined the Methodist Church in Aug. 1919 and remained a faithful member throughout his life.

Mrs.Slezak passed away Nov.12,1891. Mr. Slezak married a second time Leota M.Warbinton on Nov.21,1893. To this union 2 children were born Donald and Bertha.

He was a man who stood high in the estimate of his Christian neighbors. Those who lived around him speak in the highest terms. Much credit is given to him for the building up of his community in religious things as well as in things pertaining more especially to social and community affairs. People of Avondale Community especially remember him for what he did for the Avondale Church and community.

He was preceded in death by his second wife on Nov.19,1941. For the past number of years he has made his home with his son Donald and family in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives and 4 brothers Thomas, James, Joseph and Rudolph and 1 sister Anne.

He is survived by 4 daughters Mrs.Eva [Harry] Brown of Bridgewater; Mrs. Nellie Burich of Creston; and Mrs.Bertha [Roy] Stakey of Massena; 1 son Donald of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother Frank of Denver, Col.; nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.

The memory of the just is blessed.

Funeral services were held at the Avondale Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon April 1 at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. John Alexander. The music was furnished by a male quartette composed of Messrs. Bill Ahnen, Don Campbell, Darrell Stuva and Lawrence Bayman who sang "Lord I'm Coming Home" "Beyond The Sunset" and "Rock Of Ages".

The accompaniments were played on the piano by Mrs. Ralph Steward.

Pallbearers were grandsons of the deased Marvin and Leo Stakey; Orlo and LeRoy Wallace, Loren Brown and Glenn Burich.

Interment was made in the Avondale Cemetery.
