Harry Brown son of George A and Laura Benedict Brown was born in Washington Township of Adair County, Iowa on Nov.6,1886 and passed away at his home in Bridgewater, Iowa on Wednesday afternoon August 20,1969 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 5 days. He was the youngest of 6 children.
He spent his early life in Washington Township at the family farm home, where he received his education in the rural schools.
Harry was united in marriage to Miss Eva Slezak at the Slezak farm home near Avondale, March 15,1905. They began housekeeping in a tenant house on the J.B.Sullivan farm, east of Bridgewater where he was employed. Five children were born to this union, Letha, Velma, Arthur, Loren and Delores.
They lived on Various farms in Washington Township until 1912, when they moved to Burlington, Iowa where he was employed until Feb. of 1926 when they returned to Bridgewater and moved into the former home which he had purchased and where they made their home until the death of Mrs. Brown in 1966. Since that time Harry has made his home with his daughter Letha Ahnen who has faithfully looked after his welfare.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son-in-law Paul Ahnen, his brothers Thomas, Edward, and Roy Brown and his sisters Alice, Mrs.Harden Brawdy and Stella Mrs.Edward Brawdy and 1 granddaughter Viola Ahnen.
He is survived by his 5 children Mrs. Letha Ahnen of Bridgewater; Velma Mrs. Henry Lohafer and husband of Greenfield; Arthur Brown and wife of Norwich, Conn.; Loren Brown and wife Mary Ann of Council Bluffs; and Delores Mrs. Bill Scott and husband of Powell, Wyoming; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
