San Jose, CA formerly of Greenfield, IA

Michael J. Baker passed away peacefully at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center on July 24, 2014 with his loving family surrounding him. He was 61 years old. A native of Greenfield, Iowa, Mike was born April 19, 1953 to Dr. Joseph and Helen Baker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan, their two sons Jonathan of Portland, OR and Matthew (Claire) of Minneapolis, MN. Also left to cherish his memory is his mother Helen, brothers Dr. Larry (Lori), John (Shelly), and James (Joni) of Des Moines, sister Jane of Greenfield and a large extended family. His dog Lucy will miss the treats, scratches and belly rubs!

He was proceeded in death by his dad and in-laws Clifford and Doris Welcher.

A graduate of Iowa State with a BA in Political Science and Economics, he earned his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Mike had a 35 year career in senior management in the financial services industry. A relationship guy who had the gift to impact those he met, Mike was passionate about his advisors he lead and respected the clients they served. He lead by example, driven to always be a gentleman, do the right thing and to be impeccable with his word.

Mike was a loving husband, father, son, brother and a devoted sports nut! Golf, baseball, football and tennis all fueled his passion for this life. He was loved by everyone who crossed his path. His generosity, caring spirit, and humor will be missed by many.

Mike's family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and the Cupertino Healthcare and Wellness Center for the kindness and care they showed to Mike. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A service will be held at a later date.
