Vallee "Sam" Halvorsen, son of George Fredrick Halvorsen and Ella Sophie (Minderman) Halvorsen was born October 7, 1938 in Palmyra, NE and passed from this life Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home in Osceola, surrounded by his family, at the age of 73.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Kale Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Sam was a life long farmer in Clarke County. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Calvin and Dean.

He is survived by wife, Mary Ann Halvorsen, daughter, Marcia Halvorsen of Grimes, sons, Scott (Vicky) Halvorsen and Kurt (Deleth) Halvorsen of Osceola, grandchildren, Blake (Jolene) Halvorsen of Burlington, WI, Lance Halvorsen and Brooke Halvorsen of Osceola, Tanner (Serena Be) Halvorsen of Osceola, Alisha (Chris) Bassler of Iowa City; brother, Allen (Phyllis) Halvorsen of Indianola, sister, Helen (Dwayne) Ernst of Adair, sister-in-law, Vicki Halvorsen of Eldora, other relatives and many friends.
