RICKEY GHEER, ORIENT

Rickey D. Gheer, 52, of Orient died Aug. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 22, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at the Hebron Cemetery, Adair County. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.ochiltree.com .

Rickey Gheer was born May 20, 1957, in Davenport to Ivyl and Maxine (Wise) Gheer and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. He later attended college and also served 10 years in the United States Army. His marriage to Connie Cave took place Sept. 26, 2000, in Des Moines. Rickey worked as a manager for Aqualand in Des Moines for 10 years. He also was a rodeo judge for 13 years and a member of the United Rodeo Association and Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dewell and Elta Wise; and his paternal grandparents, Albert and Alice Gheer.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Orient; his parents, Ivyl and Maxine, of Osceola; six children — Amber Dickerson of Corpus Christi, Texas, Katy Lambert and Kendra Chism, both of Brownwood, Texas, Risa Cave of Clive, and Lincoln Steel and Leanna Gheer, both of Orient; a brother, Rusty Gheer of Centerville; and eight grandchildren.

Rickey D. Gheer, 52, of Orient, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 22, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A visitation with family receiving friends will be held prior to funeral services from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery, Adair County. Rickey is survived by his wife, Connie of Orient; his parents, Ivyl and Maxine Gheer of Osceola; six children, Amber Dickerson (J.D.) of Corpus Christi, TX; Katy Lambert (Kevin) of Brownwood, TX; Kendra Chism (Kerry) of Brownwood, TX; Risa Cave of Clive; Lincoln Steele of Orient; Leanna Gheer of Orient; one brother, Rusty Gheer (Lynn) of Centerville; eight grandchildren, Lillian, Madison, Relee, and Dylan Dickerson, Trent Chism, Jalen Savage, and Noah and Nicholas Lambert.
