MEGAN SKELLENGER, Orient

Megan Anne Skellenger, 26, of Orient and formerly of Murray, died Dec. 31, 2008, of maxillary sinus cancer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 4, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston with the Revs. Joseph Pins and Leonard Kenkel officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Memorials may be directed to St. Malachy School for a scholarship to be established in Megan’s name. Funeral arrangements were handled by Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Megan Skellenger was born Feb. 15, 1982, in Des Moines to Craig J. and Elizabeth Anne (James) Justice and was a 2000 graduate of Murray High School. She continued her education at Southwestern Community College, graduating in 2002, and Buena Vista College, from which she received her degree in 2004. On May 24, 2003, she married Brett Michael Skellenger at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Osceola. They resided on a farm in the Orient area. Megan worked at Fareway and the Knotty Pine Restaurant and was presently employed at Iowa State Savings Bank in Creston as a credit analyst. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Future Farmers of America, serving as a state officer.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Frances Justice.

She is survived by her husband, Brett, of Orient; two sons, Maxwell and Grant Skellenger of Orient; her parents, Craig and Elizabeth Justice of Murray; a brother, John Justice of Van Wert; a sister, Amy Starlin of Creston; and grandparents, Paul and Leota James of Murray.
