PIONEER IOWA EDITOR DEAD
Had Published the Casey Vindicator Ever Since 1879
Casey, Dec. 28, 1905 - W.P. Cowman, editor of the Casey Vindicator, died at his home here Monday night, after four days illness with paralysis.
Mr. Cowman was one of the pioneers of Iowa, coming to the state from Ohio, with his parents in 1848. They settled in Marion county, where for a number of years he was engaged in operating a sawmill. He furnished the lumber for some of the first houses built in Des Moines.
Mr. Cowman was a veteran of the Civil War, having been first sergeant of Company G. Eighteenth Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was commander of Stanfield Post G.A.R. here at the time of his death.
