The home occupied by Dr. A. R.
Meurer and family at Casey was
completely destroyed by fire Mon-
day night.

The house first caught fire
about midnight and threatened to
spread to the residence of Mrs. C.
B. Galloway next door, but was
held in check with the aid of fire-
men from Adair and Stuart. After
the blaze had been extinguished
and the firemen had left the scene,
the fire broke out again about
1:30 and completely destroyed the
Meurer home.

Mrs. Frank Meurer of Exira,
who was visiting her son, discov-
ered the fire about 12:30. She
was sleeping in a downstairs room
and notified the doctor, who with
his wife and baby were sleeping
upstairs. They fled from the burn-
ing house, the elder Mrs. Meurer
being burned about the legs when
a pan of water that had become
heated by the fire was spilled on
her.

The furniture and personal be-
longings of the family were some-
what damaged by the heat and
flames. The fire started in the
basement, probably from the
furnace.

Dr. Bernard Meurer of Adair
brought his mother and his
brother's wife and baby to Exira
Tuesday.
