"THE ZENE L. CHAMBERS FAMILY
Zene LeRoy Chambers was born May 15, 1902, in Grove township, one mile east and one-fourth mile south of the Howe Store. His parents were Martha (Caviness) and William Chambers. Martha was born in Iowa, August 3, 1867, and died in Greenfield, December 13, 1963, aged 96. William was born in Ireland August 22, 1859, and died on his farm January 14, 1930, at age 71.
Zene was a farmer, and worked with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) for 30 years before retiring in 1964. At the present time they are living in the farmhouse owned by Ed Bohan northeast of Greenfield, known at the Ed Bohan, Sr., house.
Zene married Margaret (Clarke) who was born June 20, 1921, on a farm 1 mile south and 1˝ miles west of Canby. Her parents were Lydia (Easton) and Daniel Clarke. Lydia was born in Pueblo, Colorado, July 3, 1902, and Daniel in Iowa, January 14, 1892. He died April 18, 1969, at age 77.
Margaret has been employed at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield as a nurse’s aide for the past seven years. Children are: Murell and wife, Delores (Elliott) and grandchildren, Roger and Ronda, all of Des Moines; Betty and husband, Leo Forsythe, and their children, Linda, Denise, Doreen, Diane, Angela and Jeanne of Winterset, Iowa; Donell and husband; Audra Skellenger, with Debra, Douglas, and Donna, of Greenfield; Dan Chambers, employed at Iowa City, at Sheller Globe Plastic factory; and David, Daryl and Cheryl Chambers at home. Two stepsons are: Jim Ernst and wife, Marcella (Siedelmann) Ernst, and their daughters, Barbara and Brenda of Adair; and Michael Ernst of Adair, and wife, Diane (Reynolds) Ernst, whose sons are Michael, Jr., and Marc. Michael served two years in the army before his marriage. Jim and Michael are both long-distance truck operators."
