"Fred C, Queck devotes his time to general farming and stock-raising in Jackson township, where he cultivates three hundred and eighty acres of land in partnership with his brother. A native of Mendota, Illinois, he was born on the 4th of August, 1889, his parents being Paul and Augusta (Bruckner) Queck, both of whom were natives of Germany. He spent his youthful days under the parental roof and the public schools afforded him his educational advantages. On attaining his majority he began working for others, spending two years in that way, at the end of which time he and his brother Charles began cultivating their father’s land. They now operate three hundred and eighty acres, constituting one of the fine farms of Jackson township. They have brought the fields to a high state of cultivation and carry on their farm work according to modern, progressive methods. They also raise and handle considerable stock, making that a profitable feature of their business.

In June, 1914, Mr. Queck was united in marriage to Miss Freda Bredahl, who was born in Carroll county, Iowa, a daughter of Nels and Bertha (Bandow) Bredahl. The father was a native of Denmark and when a young man left that land for the new world, making his way to Carroll county, Iowa, where he met and married Bertha Bandow, who was a native of that county. Their marriage was blessed with five children, of whom three are yet living. Mr. and Mrs. Queck have but one child, Louise Elizabeth.

The parents are members of the Lutheran church and take a helpful interest in its work while guiding their lives according to its teachings. Mr. Queck votes with the republican party but aside from exercising his right of franchise takes no interest in politics, preferring to give his undivided attention to his business affairs. He has always followed farming and knowledge of practical methods of agriculture, laudable ambition and unfaltering enterprise constitute the secret of his growing success."
