Don and June McMorran

The Don McMorran family moved to Bridgewater in 1937. Don, son of Edwad and Nellie Cozad McMorrand, was born in Bonesteele, South Dakota, but was reared in Adams County, most of that time near Carbon, where he worked in the coal mines in the winter and on farms and construction in the summer.

He married June Herrick, daughter of George E. and Pearle Strong Herrick, Feb. 17, 1934. They made their hoke in Adams County until moving to Bridgewater in August of 1937, where Don became owner and operator of a truck line,later adding a corn sheller to his business. Except for two years in the U.S. Army (618 F.A., 12th Armored Div.) from 1944 to 1946, he continued this operation until 1965. Since that time he has devoted full time to farming. He served two terms on the Bridgewater Town Council.

June was born and reared in Bridgewater, graduated with the class of 1933. Except for the three years after marriage when they were in Adams County, she has spent her entire life in and around the Bridegewater community. She served as secretary for the Bridgewater Ind. School District for 10 years before reorganization and 19 years as secretary to the Elementary Principal of the Bridgewater-Fontanelle Community School District, retiring in 1983. She also served one term as a member of the Bridgewater Town Council, the only woman to date to have held that office.

Don and June are the parents of three sons: Richard of Holt, Calif.; Donald of San Diego, Calif.; and Jack of Greenfield, Iowa. They have 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

They are members of the Wm. Thompson Post #703 of the American Legion and Auxiliary Unit, having served as Commander and President respectively, and other offices. Don is affiliated with Armistice Lodge #642 of Masonic fraternity and June is a member of Massena Chapter #429, Order of the Eastern Star.
