GLENN AND ELSIE (MORGAN) EWING

Glenn was born on a farm three and one-half miles south of Fontanelle in Richland Township to W. Scott and Mary Jane(Evans) Ewing, the third generation of the family in Adair County. Elsie Jane (Morgan) Ewing was born north of Fontanelle across the road from Prussia Center.
Both Glenn and Elsie graduated from Fontanelle High School. Glenn attended Hoenshuch & Carpenter Embalming School in St. Louis and returned to enter the family business, W. S. Ewing
and Son, as a professional funeral director. He had helped with the family business since the age of 12.

Glenn served with Co. C 168th Infantry in World War I and received the Purple Heart. Elsie Jane, upon graduation from high school, attended the University of Iowa and taught in eastern Iowa. Glenn and Elsie became engaged on his return from World War I and married in 1920. They moved into their home they had built and lived there the rest of their lives except for a short period of time in the Good Samaritan Center. They were parents of one daughter, Lorraine.
Glenn and Elsie were both active in numerous organizations and clubs. Glenn helped organize and was the first commander of Carlson Post #243 of the American Legion. Both were members ofthe United Methodist Church in Fontanelle.
Both Glenn and Elsie were sports fans and followed the local teams as long as their health would permit. They were Hawkeye fans and held season tickets at the University of Iowa for 50 years.

Glenn passed away in June of 1991, and Elsie Jane in September of the same year.
