Monthly meetings, open to the public, are held on the fourth Monday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m. The society has a committee for each of the properties and other committees are: education, collections, and genealogy/research. All of the committees are eager to welcome new members into active participation. Members of the society receive a quarterly newsletter informing them of activities and opportunities for involvement. The Horrige House, which contains the history and genealogy records of the Benton County Historical Society, will be open Wednesdays between 1:00-4:00 pm with Rose Rose and Ilene Kreider helping with genealogy. Call or text Rose at 319-560-9324 for other dates.
The Vinton Depot will be open June 6-Sept. 26 on Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 which coincides with Vinton's Farmers Market. Also the Depot will be open on the first and third Saturdays in June, July, August and September with the model trains being demonstrated. The Pioneer Recollections book is for sale by the society for $18.00, which includes postage and the separate index.
Vinton newspapers have been digitized from 1855-2017 due to BCHS and Vinton Public Library collaboration.
