Russell school was located in section 18 (east) of Lafayette twp. about 1 mile from the farm where Anna Marie lived with her parents Ben & Mary (McNamara) Mullarkey. Anna and her siblings walked to and from the school every day regardless of the weather. The County Superintendent of Schools from Waukon covered all of the county schools.
