FROM OUR DIRECTORS

Helen Langer Helen Langer
Helen Langer studied music with a major in voice at junior college and at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. She sang in Gilbert and Sullivan productions and classical works with the Chicago Bach Chorus and the Swedish Choral Club of Chicago. Many opportunities for solo and ensemble singing kept her busy, as well as the directing of several church choirs. In this area, she has sung with the Kickapoo Chorale of Wisconsin and directed the Lutheran church choir. Here in Kee Valley, a talented group of local women who love to sing, wanted to form a prospective chapter of Sweet Adelines International. As a result, in the Fall of 1979 Helen accepted the challenge to learn about this music and direct the group. The hard work is surpassed by the excitement, fun and enthusiasm generated by these fantastic, dedicated women.

P.S. We forgot to mention that Helen realized a lifetime ambition to sing "Madam Butterfly" in Milan, Italy. Unfortunately, she was not heard in the Opera House, but in the hotel room while showering!

Jeanette Tobiason Jeanette Tobiason
This farmer's daughter from Greene, Iowa, received her education in public and parochial schools in East St. Louis, Illinois, country schools and high school in and around Greene. and college education (BA in Music Education and German) at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. She has also participated in additional graduate level courses at the Universities of Minnesota and Iowa, and was a member of the Bach Chorale in Minneapolis. Serving as a resource person in worship has kept her on the go for her church. She teaches music two days a week in the Allamakee Schools. In addition, she is the mother of three daughters and the wife of Paul, an ALC pastor. Since Paul and many of their friends are avid S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. members, it was not surprising that Jeanette should take a decided interest in the Sweet Adelines. And, since her husband is a "preacher" she has been known to often "sermonize" to the gals on the proper methods of singing - and having fun doing it.
