.....Lansing news continues
-Mike Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Murphy,
arrived home last week from Iowa state University at Ames to
spend the summer vacation hereabouts. He will complete his work
toward a degree in mechanical engineering early in 1977.
-Mr. Paul Rossi boarded a plane at La Crosse on Monday, May 31st,
flying to Boise, Idaho, where, he is spending a couple of weeks
vacation with relatives.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harold Englehorn were weekend visitors at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Englehorn, Western Springs, Ill., and with
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clauson and family of Carpentersville, Ill.
They made the trip by air from La Crosse.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harry Miller of Thomson, Ill. spent several days
visiting Mrs. Florence Weipert in Lansing. They left on Wednesday
morning for points in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
-A son was born on May 14 at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo,
Ia. to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Chapin. The mother is the former Mary
Lou Mullarkey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mullarkey.
He received the name Stuart, James at baptism on June 6 at
Blessed Sacrament Parish, with the Rev. Gerald Condon officiating
at the service.
-Over 90 relatives and friends attended a reception on Sunday,
May 30, honoring Jeanne and Joanne Mullarkey, who graduated from
Kee High School on May 28. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Leo Mullarkey, at whose home the reception was held.
-Sue Bartels spent a weeks vacation with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Bartels. She returned to Breda, la., to resume her
summer band program.
-Cornelius Holmes of St. Paul, Minn., visited his cousin, Edward
Julson, over the Memorial Day weekend. The latter returned to St.
Paul with him for a week or so visit with relatives and friends
in the Twin Cities.
-John Hawes returned home last Friday from La Crosse Lutheran
Hospital following heart surgery.
WAUKON NEWS - By Mrs. Floyd Larson, Correspondent
-Mr. and Mrs. Phil Maly and two children of Des Moines were
Memorial Day weekend visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Clare Duggan. They left on Tuesday after Memorial Day for a
vacation trip which is to take them to Glacier National Park and
possibly Yellowstone and the Tetons. On Saturday, May 29, Mrs.
Maly and her husband attended her 15th high school class reunion
(St. Pat's) at the Fireside Lounge.
-Mr. and Mrs. Kent Larson and children of Ackley were Sunday
overnight visitors (the weekend before last) with their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Larson and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Odegard.
-Mr. and Mrs. Harold Giles (the former Althea Feuerhelm) of St.
Paul, Minn., called at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Esther
Hagemeier, on Saturday and were also callers at the Frank Sandry
home. They came at this time to visit cemeteries in the area
where relatives are buried.
-Three Waukon sisters were among the 110 who received high school
diplomas at Area One Vocational Technical School at Calmar on
Monday evening, May 31. They are Esther Hartley, Dorothy Brown
and Lydia Weber. All are grandmothers and the latter also is a
great-grandmother. Also noticed among the graduates were the
names of Dennis Moe and Kevin Hastings from Waukon. The
graduation address was delivered by the Honorable Michael Blouin,
Second District Congressman.
-Mr. and Mrs. Earl F. Gruber and three daughters of West Des
Moines and. Mrs. Bob Highland of Round Lake, Ill., spent the
holiday weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gruber.
-Marriage licenses issued in Allamakee County last week went to
Allan L. Rissman, Waukon, and Fern Mohwinkle, Dorchester; Gene D.
Thompson, Clinton and Carol J. Flack, Ft. Atkinson; Randy L.
Snitker and Beth E. Schneider, both of Postville; Steven J.
Mikos, Chicago Heights, Ill., and Kathleen A. Martin, Postville;
and to Howard A. Lampert and Christine Pottratz, both of New
Albin.
-Mr. and Mrs. Donn Philips and two children of Jefferson, Iowa,
came last Wednesday, spending until Sunday with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Philips.
-Clarice Schafer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calude Schafer of
rural Lansing, began work this week at the Gunderson Clinic, La
Crosse. She graduated from the Spencer School of Business,
Spencer, Iowa, on May 16, from the Dental Assistant course.
NEW ALBIN NEWS
-New Albin split a pair of baseball games, winning over Soldiers
Grove by a scorlt of 5-3 on Sunday in a game played in New Albin.
Dana Fink was the wining pitcher, with relief from Galen Breeser
and Dutch Heiderscheit. Dana's bases-loaded double capped a five
run fifth inning for manager Shooky Fink's squad.
-New Albin lost to Coon Valley on Saturday by a 4-0 score. Bob
Fink pitched and Jeff Fink did the catching. Dana Fink and Dave
Darling each had two hits in the game. Next Sunday New Albin
hosts De Soto. Game time is 2 o'clock.
-Over 100 relatives and friends gathered at the Lawrence Mitchell
home in Sand Cove to honor the Mitchells' son Ray who graduated
from Kee High School on May 28. A beautiful graduation cake was
made by Mrs. Betty Burke. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all
present. Cards and conversation passed the afternoon. Ray leaves
for duty in the Reserves shortly.
-A number of friends gathered at the Dean Smerud home to honor
Mrs. Denise Colsch and her new son, Adam Francis. The infant
received many beautiful gifts. Refreshments were served in the
afternoon.
-Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mitchell and children of St. Louis Park, Minn.,
arrived on Saturday to spend the weekend with relatives and
friends. They came to attend New Albin Day and Ray Mitchell's
graduation party.
-Mr. and Mrs. James Benesh and Darek of Cedar Rapids came Sunday
to visit her father, James Mitchell, and other relatives.
-Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Meyer and family were weekend guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Buege. They also attended the New Albin
Bicentennial Day events.
-Among 83 freshmen named to the Winter-May Term Dean's Honor List
at Wartburg College is David Donovan, son of Mrs. Herb Donovan of
New Albin. Dave is a 1975 graduate of Kee High School in Lansing.
-Mr. and Mrs. Owen Thorson returned home from New Orleans last
week. Owen had been working there last month for Fegles Power
Service on construction.
-Mr. and Mrs. Norm Dresselhaus had supper guests on Monday night,
that being his brother and family, Bob, from Minnesota.
-Little Kris Moore returned to Madison, Wis., with her
grandparents on Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Somermeyer, for a couple
weeks visit. The Somermeyers were here for the holidays, visiting
Kris's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Moore.
-Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blair and family were guests for this past
week at the Stan Buege home. They also attended the New Albin Day
celebration.
-Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Colsch and sons Jason and Eric were weekend
guests at the parental Bob Colsch and Bob Imhoff homes.
-Mr. and Mrs. Jim Imhoff and Jennifer were weekend visitors at
the Earl Benson and Mrs. Rita Imhoff homes.
-Miss Lyn Weymiller and a friend from Minneapolis were weekend
guests at the Emil Weymiller home coming especially to take in
the New Albin Day celebration.
-Mr. and Mrs. Don Weymiller of Decorah, former New Albin
residents, were weekend visitors in the New Albin area.
-Mrs. Lois Sheppard of Seattle, Wash., was a guest at the Roger
Weymiller home this past weekend.
-A graduation reception was held on Friday, May 28, for Mr. Terry
Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Meyer. The reception was held at
the Meyer home in New Albin.
-Mr. and Mrs. Art Fredrickson of LaCrosse and Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Leland of Genoa, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Al Smerud of La Crosse
and Mrs. and Mrs. Brent Darling of Lansing were Saturday guests
at the Vernon Darling home. They all attended the New Albin Day
Bicentennial program.
-Mr. and Mrs. Len Wiley of San Juan, Texas were Sunday evening
guests at the Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Darling home.
-Mr. and Mrs. Don Althoff and family of Stoddard, Wis., also
spent the weekend at the Stan Buege home and took in the New
Albin Day activities.
-Mrs. Dave Baker and family were guests Saturday at the Earl
Mitchell home in New Albin.
HARPERS FERRY NEWS
- Mrs. Harland Luster is a surgical patient at Lutheran hospital
in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Her family is visiting with her.
- Neil Enabnit of Pensacola, Florida, is visiting friends here.
Neil is with the Navy in Florida.
- Mrs. Mabel Brazell went to Cedar Rapids for a few days to visit
at the Harold Brazell home and attended graduation exercises for
her granddaughter, Michelle Brazell.
- Mrs. Anna Heffern and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Moody visited friends in
New Albin Sunday afternoon.
- Mr. and Mrs. Clem Schulte, Danny and Clem were La Crosse,
Wisconsin callers on Sunday to visit relatives.
- Mr. John Easley and friend of Minneapolis, Minnesota, spent the
weekend at his parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Don Easley.
- Mr. Urban Hawes is a patient at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse,
Wisconsin, where he had surgery on Friday morning. His family
visited him over the weekend.
- Mr. and Mrs. Tom Theis and family of Hiawatha, Iowa, were
weekend visitors at the Leo Daman and Harry Theis homes.
- Mr. and Mrs. Bill Irons of Waukon were overnight guests
Saturday at the Clem Schulte home.
- Mr. Norbert Brazell of Cedar Rapids is spending a weeks
vacation with his mother, Mrs. Leo Brazell, and brother John.
- Nancy Valley and Mary Jo Riley of Cedar Rapids were weekend
visitors at the Paula Valley home.
- A bridal shower was held Sunday afternoon at St. Ann's Church
hall for Mary Meehan. Lunch and refreshments were served and Mary
received many nice gifts for her new home. She will become the
bride of Dennis Strub of Lansing on June 19th.
- Marcus "Red" Robinson is a patient at Lutheran
Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
- Dinner guests at the Mrs. Carmelita Boots home on Sunday were
Randy Milky, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jellison, Lori and Butch of Monona,
Mr. Ole Soland and friend, and John Sullivan.
- John Sadler family of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, spent the weekend at
the home of his parents, Mr. and. Mrs. Mike Sadler. Jill Sadler
of Anamosa returned home with them after spending the week with
her grandparents.
- Mr. George Sullivan is a patient in the Waukon hospital.
- Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kelly drove to Dubuque Saturday and visited
relatives, returning home on Sunday.
- Mrs. Lucy Schulte and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schulte of Waukon
went to Freeport, Illinois, Thursday evening to visit at the Sy
Schulte home. On Friday they all drove into Chicago where they
attended graduation at the University of Illimois. James Schulte
graduated from the School of Dentistry. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Sy Schulte.
WAUKON NEWS
- Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Stoffel (the former Donna Lou Hanson) of
Pleasant Hill, California, arrived on Tuesday for a few days
visit with her sisiter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Snitker.
Enroute here they stopped over at Omaha, Nebraska for a short
visit with her brother, Robert Hanson, and family. While in this
area, they will visit Mr. Stoffel's mother and sister in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Koester of Homewood, Illinois, are spending
this week in Waukon at the home of her sister, Mrs. O.J. Moe.
- Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Snitker and family of Hastings, Nebraska,
spent the long Memorial Day weekend Friday to Monday with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Snitker. Other guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Szabo and Jason from Viola, Iowa. Mrs. Szabo is the
former Nadine Snitker.
