In May 2005, my daughter and I visited Adair County and its cemeteries. We drove to every one except those that were on private property or otherwise inaccessible. I will be putting on photos and a small commentary for each one. We visited right before Memorial Day which was a perfect time to see them in all of their finery. The lawns were newly mowed and the peonies were in full bloom and gorgeous! This was the first cemetery that we visited. We spent a day and a half here. My great grandpa and grandma Handley are buried here and I can remember going here when I was a little girl with my grandma and mom. At that time it was very over grown. We could barely get the gate open and the weeds had to be pushed away to see the stone. Today it is well tended with the grass newly mown and the weeds cleared away. The flowers are in full bloom. It is very peaceful with birds singing and little critters scurrying around. I included a photo of one of the braver critters. |
