Myrtle JoAnn (Nissen) Erb 1941-2021

Myrtle JoAnn Erb was born on April 22, 1941, on a farm west of Graettinger, Iowa to Roy A. and Irene L. (Simonsen) Nissen. She passed away on July 4, 2021, at her home in North Liberty, Iowa at the age of 80 years.

She attended Graettinger High School, graduating in 1959. Myrtle married Theodore “Ted” N. Erb, Jr. on June 28, 1975, at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.

Myrtle worked for Graettinger Municipal Light Plant-Graettinger for 46 years, from 1959-2005. Both Myrtle and Ted owned Graettinger Agri System and True Value Store in Graettinger from 1980 until 1988. Later they owned and operated Customized Firefighting (Burn and flashover simulators).

She was a member of the of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, where she served as treasurer. She then transferred her membership to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill (Rachel) Erb, Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Autumn, Alexis and Abigail Erb, Coralville, Bernard Erb, Pocahontas, Iowa, Bethany Erb, Humboldt,Iowa and Kyle (Beth) Erb, Olin; great-grandchildren, Travis, Makenna, and Aiden. (Kyle and his wife have a baby on the way); and her siblings, Betty (late Donald) Jorgensen, Dale (Barb) Nissen, William (Mary) Nissen and Melinda (Phillip) Fisher.

Myrtle is proceeded in death: by her husband, Theodore N. Erb, Jr, (2020), her parents, Roy A. Nissen (2008) and Irene Lavon (Simonsen) Nissen (2019), grandparents, Simon T. Simonsen (1948) and Esther A. (Halverson) Simonsen (1992), Ernest Nissen (1948) and Genette (Southworth) Nissen (1924), her in-laws, Theodore N. Erb, Sr (1997) and Shirley Ann (Cook) Erb (2018).

In lieu of flowers memorials will go to scholarship fund in Theodore N. Erb, Jr. & Myrtle Erb’s name for individuals furthering their education in Fire Science, Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Service or Washington County Hospice.

The funeral service was held Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville, Iowa with interment at Lost Island Lutheran Cemetery, Ruthven, Iowa.
